Sultanbeyli Int’l filmfest to showcase Iranian film ‘Gabriel’

Iranian filmmaker Yousef Kargar’s acclaimed movie 'Gabriel' is competing at the 2021 Sultanbeyli International Short Film Competition, which is currently underway in Istanbul, Turkey.

The film is about a middle-aged man who lives with his son. His wife has been missing for some time. All the people are suspicious of her. One day news comes to him and he has to choose one: expediency or conscience?

Yousef Kargar was born in 1985 in Urmia city in Iran. He studied Persian Literature at University. He is an MA student of Cinema now. Since 2002, Kargar has been a critic. He writes in many outlets and internet.

The film has already been shown at a number of international film events, including the Berkeley Video & Film Festival in the US, the Cheongju International Short filmfest in South Korea, and the Flickers’ Rhode Island International filmfest in the US.

The 11th Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Amman, Jordan, selected ‘Gabriel’ as best short in January.

Farnush Samadi, director of the acclaimed Iranian short ‘Gaze’, is a member of the jury at the festival.

Perihan Savas, Banu Sivaci, Faruk Guven, Feza Caldiran, Hakan Karsak, Emre Kizilirmak and Ana Castro are the other members of the jury.

On July 1-4, ‘Gabriel’ will be screened at the 7th the International Alexandria Short Film Festival in Greece.

The Sultanbeyli Municipality is the main organizer of the festival, which opened on Tuesday and will be running until June 17.
